The Toccoa House Properties Difference

As a wedding venue in Blue Ridge for couples in Sunrise, FL, Toccoa House Properties is simply magical, where the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains meets the country-chic vibes of modern Appalachia. It has a distinctly custom-built feel, and for good reason. Nearly every inch of the property - from the luxurious cabins within walking distance of one another to the heated pool and more - was purpose-built for exceptional events, like weddings in Blue Ridge.

It all started when Oregonian Greg Spencer initially discovered the Blue Ridge area on a backpacking trip to the Cohutta Wilderness in the 1980s. A short time later, enamored of the area, Greg embarked on a land-purchasing mission that led him to 17 acres of undeveloped acreage. Amazed by the beauty of the Toccoa River and the inspiring views of the surrounding mountains, Greg wasted no time in securing what is now known as Toccoa House Properties.

Today, Toccoa House Properties exists as a one-of-a-kind, highly sought-after event space and wedding venue. As a family-owned and operated business, we take pride in putting on fairytale weddings for you and your guests. In fact, our unique location and commitment to personalized wedding services are what separate us from other wedding venues in North Georgia.

Simply put, we aren't afraid to go "above and beyond" for wedding clients. If you need assistance or advice, you can rest easy knowing that our team will answer your calls - not an automated answering machine or third-party service.

Some popular styles to consider may include:

  • Traditional
  • Whimsical

Pick a Wedding Date and List of Wedding Venue Choices

What time of the year do you want to get married? Once you have an idea of a season, like fall or spring, come up with a list of potential of wedding venues in Blue Ridge, GA, like Toccoa House Properties.

Keep in mind the following:

  • Guest Count
  • Wedding Budget
  • Wedding Style

step-three

Schedule a Tour

One of the most important steps involved in choosing a wedding venue is to tour the space. Don't be afraid to ask pertinent questions. If the venue manager seems like they have better things to do than answer your questions, look elsewhere.

Make sure you take into account:

  • Size of Wedding Venue
  • Ambiance of Wedding Venue
  • Layout of Wedding Venue

step-four

Consider Services and Amenities

Once you narrow down your wedding venue choices, consider the amenities and services the venue offers. Be sure to weigh what they offer against your needs and budget to further narrow down your choices.

Consider services and amenities such as:

  • Lodging
  • Ceremony and Reception Space

Determine the Location of Your Wedding Venue

If you think your guests will hate a particular wedding venue location, why consider it in the first place? Choosing a destination - like Toccoa House Properties - that is within a short driving distance of grocery stores and restaurants is almost always better than a hard-to-access venue.

Check Out Wedding Venue Reviews

Do yourself a favor and check out the wedding venue's Google reviews and reviews on other platforms. You can also ask for opinions from people you trust, like friends and family members. Don't be afraid to reach out directly to people who have used the wedding venue previously. A wedding venue in Blue Ridge for couples in Sunrise, FL, should be excited to show you their online reviews. If you notice a disparaging review, try asking the owner of the wedding venue to explain their side of the story before writing them off completely.

Compare Wedding Venues and Choose

Try coming up with a list of pros and cons of each wedding venue that you're considering. Doing so can help you whittle your list down to one or two choices. Remember to trust your gut throughout this process. If you've come down to two choices, and something about one of the venues rubbed you the wrong way, it's probably for a reason.

Features to consider when choosing your wedding venue may include:

  • Location
  • Amenities
  • Price
  • Reviews
  • Tour
  • Lodging
  • Accessibility
  • Attractiveness of Wedding Venue

Once you've settled on a wedding venue, it's time to book! As most wedding venues will tell you, try booking your venue at least a year before your wedding is set to take place. Doing so will give you plenty of time to plan. If you need help preparing, don't be afraid to work with a professional wedding planner to make your life easier.

Some items to plan for may include:

  • DJs or Entertainment
  • Caterers
  • Decorations
  • Attractions
  • Bridal Showers
  • Bachelor Parties
  • Post-Wedding Parties

No matter how you look at it, we're in the middle of winter. On the bright side — literally — the days are getting longer, even though it may not feel like it right now.

And don't forget, we have the arrival of daylight saving time coming in March.

The increase in daylight hours comes in such small increments it doesn't seem as if anything changes but those minutes and seconds do add up.

Between Jan. 1 and the end of the month Jan. 31, we'll see 30 extra minutes of daylight, according to calculations from the Old Farmers Almanac.

And if you want to get really excited, between Jan. 1 and the summer solstice on June 20 — the longest day of the year — we'll have an extra 4 hours of daylight for Florida summer fun.

When is sunrise and sunset? When will days get longer in Florida?

These calculations were based on Jacksonville, in Northeast Florida.

When does daylight saving time start in 2024?

Daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m. EST Sunday, March 10, 2024, when we "spring forward." Yes, we'll lose an hour of sleep.

Those who support ending daylight saving time permanently advocate brighter afternoons and more economic activity. Likely the No. 1 complaint about daylight saving time is the disruption of sleep and habits.

Countdown to daylight saving time 2024

Winter solstice, How many hours of daylight in Florida on the shortest day of the year?

The winter solstice occurred Dec. 21 in 2023. Figures were calculated for Jacksonville.

Summer solstice: How many hours of daylight in Florida on the longest day of the year?

The summer solstice, or the longest day of the year, will be June 20 in 2024. Figures were calculated for Jacksonville.

What can you do with an extra 10 minutes?

Over the course of a month, you'll have anywhere from an extra 10 to 20 minutes of new daylight hours. Here are a few ideas of what you can do with them:

LAMB OF GOD played the first concert of 2024 last night (Saturday, February 3) at the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida as the support act for PANTERA. Fan-filmed video of the entire show can be seen below.

LAMB OF GOD's setlist was as follows:

01. Memento Mori02. Walk With Me In Hell03. Now You've Got Something To Die For04. Hourglass05. Resurrection Man06. Ditch07. Ruin08. Contractor09. Vigil10. Laid To Rest11. Redneck

LAMB OF GOD's latest album, "Omens", was released in October 2022. The LP was the follow-up to LAMB OF GOD's self-titled album, which arrived in June 2020. That effort marked LAMB OF GOD's first recordings with drummer Art Cruz, who joined the band in July 2019 as the replacement for the group's founding drummer, Chris Adler.

"The world is crazy and keeps changing. 'Omens' is a reaction to the state of the world," LAMB OF GOD vocalist Randy Blythe said. "It's a very pissed off record. It is extremely pissed off."

"Omens" was recorded at Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles, California, a location that birthed classics from THE DOORS, RAMONES and SOUNDGARDEN, among others.

"The inner workings of the band have never been better," explained LAMB OF GOD guitarist Mark Morton. "You can hear it in 'Omens'. You can see it in our performances, and if you're around us for five minutes, you can feel it."

In August 2022, LAMB OF GOD bassist John Campbell told Germany's EMP that "Omens" is "a fairly dynamic record. There's a few other little surprises and tweaks," he said. "But we recorded it differently this time. We went to Los Angeles and all of us in the same room and same time recording, which gave us some leeway to make changes as things happened and just kind of feel it out in a different way than we've done in the past, which would be everybody kind of going in their corner recording and it gets assembled later. So it was a real team effort on this one, in the recording — all the way through it's been a team effort — and in the recording especially, when we were all in the same room doing that stuff, it was great. I got to spend three and a half weeks working on a record instead of four or five days — working on the recording of the record."

Also in August of last year, Campbell was asked by Knotfest what led to the decision to record "Omens" live in the studio. John responded: "Well, we've been doing this so fucking long, we had to do something different. I believe that was [producer] Josh Wilbur's idea to do that. I know he had a great place worked out to do that in. And we had just kind of been doing it the same way over and over and over again, and we were looking to get a little more excitement into it and maybe see if that couldn't produce a different feel on the record."

FLORIDA — As we “fall back” to Eastern Standard Time in Florida Sunday morning — unless you’re in the portion of the Panhandle that falls within the Central Time Zone — we’re approaching the time of year known as “dark 30.”

This means sunset takes place before we’re home from the evening commute or when the kids get home from after-school activities.

Sunset Sunday is at 5:43 p.m. in St. Petersburg. Earlier sunset times also mean earlier sunrises. Sunrise Monday is at 6:45 a.m. Across the state, sunset is at 5:36 p.m. Sunday in Miami and sunrise is at 6:32 a.m.

Meanwhile in Panama City — which is in the Panhandle — sunset is at 4:52 p.m. Sunday and sunrise is at 6 a.m. Monday.

Both sunrise and sunset are busy times for deer. It’s when they go to their favorite watering holes, creating hazards on roads they share with people commuting to and from work or school.

Find out what's happening in St. Petewith free, real-time updates from Patch.

November is even more precarious. It’s the season of “rut” for deer. In other words, it’s mating season and a fairly frantic time for deer, which are so fixed on continuing their species that they may run right into your car, SUV or truck. The season is called “the rut” because it’s the time of year male deer thrust their antlers together until one of them gives up and dies.

Tom Langen, a professor of biology at Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, wrote for The Conversation that collisions with deer are about eight times more frequent at dusk or dawn — when the deer are most active and motorists’ ability to spot them is poorest — than during daylight hours. In fact, only about a fifth of deer-vehicle collisions occur during daylight hours.

Motorists should also be aware during full moons — the next one is the full beaver moon on Nov. 27 — at the time of night when the moon is brightest. During those hours, deer move farther away from their nesting spots and are more likely to dart into traffic on the highway.

It’s not just male deer that make the highways dangerous in the fall. Elk and moose are mating as well.

Florida ranks 46 in automobile-animal collisions, according to a State Farm insurance survey released earlier this fall. The chances of hitting an animal are about 1 in 487.

Here are some tips to avoid hitting a deer:

About 200 people die and 29,000 more are seriously injured every year in deer-automobile collisions, according to published research. Property damage exceeds $1 billion annually, with claims averaging around $2,600 per accident.

October 12, 2023 – Broward Health today hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for a freestanding emergency department in Sunrise, the first to be opened by Broward Health. In a first-of-its-kind collaboration, Broward Health and Memorial Healthcare System will partner to ensure exceptional emergency care at the new freestanding emergency department.

“Sunrise has long been considered a medical desert, lacking necessary medical services for the residents who call that city home,” said Shane Strum, Broward Health President & CEO. “We explored a number of ways to mitigate the gap in healthcare and are proud to be teaming up with Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital to bring high-quality emergency care to adults and children who call Sunrise home.”

Broward Health anticipates that almost 15,000 emergency patients will be treated at the new facility annually.

“This is an exciting moment for Broward Health and the City of Sunrise,” said Christopher Pernicano, chair of the North Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners. “As Broward County’s two public hospital systems in the north and the south, the Broward Health and Memorial Healthcare systems share a common goal to provide high-quality healthcare to all in our community.”

The freestanding emergency department will be equipped to do everything a hospital-based emergency department can, with adult emergency care provided by Broward Health and pediatric emergency care provided by Memorial Healthcare System’s Joe DiMaggio’s Children’s Hospital. The freestanding emergency department is expected to be completed in early 2025.

“We want to thank Broward Health and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital for your faith in our community,” said City of Sunrise Mayor Michael J. Ryan. “For providing leadership and healthcare and bringing for the first time a freestanding Emergency Department and to the City of Sunrise.”

Freestanding emergency departments have become increasingly popular as the demand for high-quality emergency services has grown. This is especially true for a fast-growing city like Sunrise, which is expected to grow 1.5% during the next five years.

“This is a watershed moment for the residents of the City of Sunrise,” said Sunrise’s Deputy Mayor Mark A. Douglas. “Our neighbors to the north and the south, east and west of us all have hospital facilities, but it is important that healthcare be made available locally to the residents of Sunrise.”

In addition to providing essential medical care, the freestanding emergency department is expected to have a $10.8 million economic impact to the community through dozens of jobs it will create.

“We are here today and there is nothing better than knowing we can provide first-class healthcare for the residents of Sunrise,” said City of Sunrise Assistant Deputy Mayor Joseph A. Scuotto.

Freestanding emergency departments offer the same level of emergency services as any hospital-based ER, but in a stand-alone and easily accessible location. This includes round-the-clock access to board-certified emergency medicine doctors and nurses, pediatric specialists, diagnostic imaging and a full-service laboratory. The average discharge time at a freestanding emergency department is 90 to 120 minutes, compared to 220 minutes at a hospital.

“I’m excited for the freestanding emergency room to provide quality healthcare to our community,” Neil C. Kerch, City of Sunrise commissioner said. “I look forward to a successful partnership with Broward Health to make the City of Sunrise the best place to live, work, play, learn, shop and eat.”

As a healthcare professional and a mom of three, City of Sunrise Commissioner Jacqueline A. Guzman recognizes the importance of this project for the community.

“This is one of the biggest accomplishments for me as a commissioner to be part of this because this is going to be forever,” Guzman said. “I can’t wait to see all the great things that Broward Health and Joe DiMaggio are going to do in our community for our families.”

Prior to the end of the event James Roach, D.O., system chief of emergency services at Broward Health, who also serves as the medical director of Sunrise EMS, provided an overview of the features and medical services that will be available at the new freestanding emergency department.

“Every second counts during a medical emergency,” said Dr. Roach. “When it comes to life-threatening health conditions – such as head injuries, uncontrolled bleeding or signs of stroke – access to an emergency room can make all the difference.”

The freestanding emergency department will be located at the intersection of West Oakland Park Boulevard and N.W. 90th Terrace.

“Thanks to the support of the community and the collaborative efforts of the City of Sunrise, Broward Health and Memorial Healthcare System leaders, Sunrise residents will finally get the healthcare they need close to home,” Strum said. “As our community grows and healthcare needs evolve, Broward Health will continue our 85-year legacy of innovation and service to Sunrise and beyond.”
